B-A-N-F-F

Hey there all!
Well it has been a few days since I last posted...I let Mark take the reigns (now and again) and write his heart out.  BUT, many things have happened since the last post so here I am to update :)

Currently we are sitting here in our lovely suite in Whistler, BC but that is far too ahead so I'll go back a few days.

BANFF NATIONAL PARK
Beautiful Banff.  After Lo and Jer's weekend wedding extravaganza (which was absolutely stunning/ amazing/ whimsical) we ventured back into the main area of Banff for our next two nights stay.  It had snowed quite a bit in Banff, but the Tercel powered through and braked when I asked it, so we safely got to our next accommodation  Mount Royal Hotel.  Being the thrifty lady that I am (my momma taught me well) we got a great room overlooking the main strip in the town for the low, low price of $65.  I was pretty impressed with the deal.

Day 1
After doing quite a bit of travelling (and drinking for that matter) we had a pretty chill afternoon.  We met up with Amy(Amond) and Ev and went up the Gondola which overlooks the mountains and town of Banff.  This is not for those scared of heights as it was HIGH!  And after drinking a sweet, delicious, tummy turning Starbucks beverage made for an even more 'entertaining' ride.  Here are some pics from that.

Myself, Marky, Am, Ev :)

Everyone was doing it....
Post Gondola, we grabbed a bite to eat at the Elk and Oarsman, and then went back to the hotel, watched a little 'Come Dine with Me' to unwind.

Day 2

(Prior to this let me mention that for the past 48 hours or more we had been listening to the reports of a MASSIVE snowstorm to hit the area....25-30cm for Calgary and neighboring towns.... LOVELY....exactly where we were headed and at about the exact time....EKKK)

Back to Day 2.   Mark and I got up nice and early for a trek through the forest.  We started in the center of town, walked to the Fairmont Banff Sprints Hotel and passed the parking lot to a wee trail which would take us up to the Hot Springs. A fresh snowfall had made for some amazing pictures, and some fresh tracks.... We arrived to the top and met Am and Ev as they ventured back from Canmore to join us in taking in a morning at the Hot Springs, but to our dismay despite a large board with flashing yellow letters stating it would re-open the day we got there, it had not. CLOSED, until further notice. AW well....we said our good-byes, went back to the hotel and went for a hot tub/sauna.  Went for a walk, checked out a great little pizza joint in town, Bear Street Tavern followed by a desert of a cinnamon sugar covered Beavertail (gotta show some Ottawa love), ANNNNNNNNNND the election debate.  Which was sweeter, I'll leave that for your own interpretation (go Obama).

DAY 3: Departure Day...
The final destination for this day was to be Fernie, BC.  Mark's first time to the province, and to see his good buddy Ryan at that.  Calgary and area had received the MASSIVE amount of snow that they were calling for, and the route we had planned on probably wasn't going to work out so well.  So we we left with 2 options.
#1: Go through Calgary and through the heart of the storm (newscasters had been saying all morning, 'If you don't have to travel, DON'T', and 'Maybe you could make this a snow day for yourself' kinda comments...reassuring)
#2: Go back up AND OVER the mountains into BC and travel to Fernie via this route.

After debating, we opted for option #2....go back to the area we had previously left 2 days previous (those snow covered very steep mountain roads, and give it a go).

.....read the next post ICE ROAD TRUCKER for the highlights, trials and tribulations of that....
